July 8 :Viet-Parisian pianist returns for charity show

French-Vietnamese pianist Gabriel Tran Phuong Nam will perform his third concert in Vietnam on July 8, this time to support a clinic for ethnic minorities.

All proceeds from the Ho Chi Minh City performance will go to the Cao Thuong (“Nobility”) clinic in the mountainous province of Kon Tum’s Dakbla commune to help 20,000 people of ethnic minorities.

The 23-year-old musician will play works by Beethoven, Chopin and Maurice.

Born to a musically-inclined family in Paris, Nam started playing piano at age 6.

He went on to place at several international piano contests, most notably garnering the Golden Medal at the Claude Kahn International Competition in Paris in 2003.

In 2009, he passed the entrance exam to the Paris National Conservatory.

In May 2010, the U.S. embassy in Paris invited Nam to give a solo performance, three months before he made his debut in Vietnam at the Ho Chi Minh City Conservatory of Music.

In the same city, he later gave a second concert to a packed audience at Sofitel Saigon Plaza.

Nam’s latest show will take place at 8 p.m July 8, again at the city conservatory, 112 Nguyen Du, District 1.

Tickets for VND 100,000 (US$5) are available at the B.A.C.H music school at 123 bis E2-E3 Tran Quoc Thao Street in District 3, Artista Learning Center at 92 Xuan Thuy Street in District 2, Yamaha Hoa Quang at 112 Dien Bien Phu Street in District 1 and Minh Nguyên Boutique at 4 Ngueyn Thi Minh Khai Street in District 1.
